If you look at the address bar you can see that this is NOT Google.com, but something else.  This is a fake Google log in page.  You may think “why would someone have a fake Google log in page?”  Let me explain.

In the past month I have had three customers with compromised email accounts.  To their distress, it turned out that everyone in their contacts list was receiving unauthorized emails from their account.  Not only were the emails unauthorized, but they were advertisements for Viagra and pornography.  Imagine how bad that could be if your a business owner!  So how did their email accounts get hacked into?  By PH Phishing.

Ph Phishing is very simple.  A hacker creates his own web page that looks IDENTICAL to a log in page of some sort.  It could be for Gmail, Facebook, PayPal, Ebay, online banking, you name it!  So when you go to log into your account, your actually giving someone else your user name and password.  Hence, your account has been compromised.

So how can you stay safe from PH Phishing?  The best defense for this kind of attack in knowledge.  Now that you know what to be aware of, ALWAYS look at your address bar to make sure that you really are where you think you are.  Next, having the paid version of Malwarebytes will greatly reduce your risk of landing on a PH Phishing site to begin with.  If Malwarebytes knows that you are about to land on a bad website, it will immediately block all access to the website keeping you safe.
